Rare Ring of Fire Galaxy Found in Early Universe
An extremely rare “cosmic ring of fire” has been discovered by astronomers located 10.8 billion light-years away from the Earth. It is a gigantic galaxy that has the shape of a ring in which stars are forming at a very rapid pace, thus truly making it a ring of fire. The galaxy is named R5519.

It is the first collisional ring Galaxy ever located in the Early Universe. It took its shape after a massive collision between two galaxies. The outer edge of the ring is around 42400 light-years across. The hole punched through the middle is about 17612 light-years across. The light from R5519 took a very very long time to reach the Earth.
So the images of the Galaxy that were recently taken are about 11 billion years old. It was thought that in the early universe galaxies had a disorderly shape & disk-shaped galaxies formed only after about 6 billion years after the Big Bang.
However, based on this finding experts think there was a disk Galaxy just 3 billion years after the Big Bang. And it collided with another Galaxy to attain this ring shape. R5519 is making stars 50 times faster than the Milky Way on its rings. Around 80 solar masses worth of new stars are born every year.
